H.E. Mr. Hassan bin Mohammed Rafei Al Emadi, Ambassador of the State of Qatar to Japan participated in the commemoration of the anniversary of the nuclear bombing of Hiroshima on the 5th and 6th of, in the presence of Japanese Prime Minister H.E. Mr. Shinzo Abe, Governor of Hiroshima Prefecture, H.E. Mr. Hidehiko Yuzaki, and Mayor of Hiroshima, H.E. Mr. Matsu Kazumi, Mayor of Hiroshima, at an invitation from the prefectural authorities.
 On Monday, 5 August, the city authorities organized a guided tour of the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Parkm where the Ambassador laid a wreath. A peace symposium was held during which the victims of the atomic bomb and middle school students spoke.

The Ambassador also attended a dinner recpetion hosted by the Mayor of Hiroshima, where he met with Speaker of the Japanese Parliament, H.E. Mr. Tadamori Oshima and a number of senior Japanese officials.

The following day, the Ambassador participated in the official ceremony at the Peace Memorial Park, where Japanese Prime Minister, Shinzo Abe, delivered a speech in which he noted that Japan, as the only country to have suffered the horror of nuclear destruction in the war, has a lofty mission to seek and achieve a world free of nuclear weapons. Their Excellencies the Governor and the Mayor of Hiroshima, delivered speeches as well, where they stressed the importance of spreading a culture of peace in the world, and urged leaders of nuclear-armed states to form the political will to eliminate nuclear weapons. The mayor also talked about the "Vision of Hiroshima City" campaign to eliminate nuclear weapons by 2020. Finally, the mayor called on the participants to work together towards the determination to eliminate nuclear weapons in the world and achieve lasting world peace for mankind.

Representatives from 92 countries, the European Union and international organizations participated in the commemoration.
