Japan's Minister for Reconstruction visits The Embassy

HE Mr. Hiromichi Watanabe, Japan's Minister for Reconstruction, Minister in charge of Comprehensive Policy Coordination for Revival from the Nuclear Accident at Fukushima Station, visited the Embassy, accompanied by a high-level delegation. He was received by HE Mr. Hassan Mohamed Rafei Al-Emadi, Ambassador of the State of Qatar to Japan.

The minister explained the reconstruction operations in the areas affected by the earthquake and tsunami in March 2011 and the great efforts made by Japan to contain the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant accident. He said that all the affected areas of the three provinces (Iwate, Miyagi and Fukushima) have been reconstructed and are back to normal, while the radioactive contamination has been contained as the radiation levels in Fukushima have become similar to other global cities.

He also noted that 35 cities in the three provinces have been registered as host cities for the Olympic teams participating in the Tokyo Summer Olympics in 2020.

 

He thanked the State of Qatar for its great role in the reconstruction of the disaster-affected areas in Japan. Thanks to the support of the State of Qatar and other friendly countries, Japan has overcome the challenges and completed the process of reconstruction of disaster-affected areas, he said.

 

During the meeting, they reviewed bilateral relations and means of enhancing them.

The meeting was attended by Mr. Abdullah bin Jassem, Minister Plenipotentiary and Mr. Rashid bin Mubarak Al Khater, Second Secretary of the Embassy.
